Is Disney Going Down?
Just myself personally, I have seen numerous posts and comments all over social media about what is going on with entertainment giant Disney.
Parents have been posting all over Facebook and Instagram that they will never watch Disney again, never go back to their theme parks, and/or canceling their Disney+ subscription.
After a little research, I have come to find out why it looks like Disney is going down.
Disney has always been know for its family-friendly movies and exciting attractions at its Orlando and Anaheim theme parks. Recently, they have been met with right-winged individuals trying to tear the company down.
The entertainment giant is pushing to incorporate more representation of minority groups into its television shows and movies. A statement was even released a few weeks back that they are going to start producing at least 50% of their content with some type of LGBTQ+ representation.
Not only is Disney receiving backlash from angry parents accusing them of trying to teach their kids about gender identity at such a young age, but also from the Florida government.
All over the news, we have witnessed just how outspoke Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been about issues such as these. He has recently passed a bill that Democrats refer to as the "Don't Say Gay" Act. Basically, he is trying to prevent students from learning about gender identity from educators in school systems.
Really how much will this hurt Disney though?
These boycotts and issues do not have much of an impact to this company. Disney generates roughly about $70 billion in annual revenue. It would honestly take a lot to take this powerhouse down.

I have been watching this situation develop as well and it seems like DeSantis might have picked a fight that he should have left alone. The feud between Disney and the Florida government will likely have more effects on the residents of the counties that surround Disney since their taxes will be raised in order to compensate for all that Disney paid for. I am curious to see where the people stand on this situation when they go vote this November. Yes, Disney might feel the pinch but I don't think it'll happen in the next few months. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI am extremely impressed that Governor DeSantis picked this fight. I believe far too many people are afraid to go after Disney, although I think it was time for someone to finally do it. I really hope Disney goes under if these allegations are proven to be as big as it has been said. They should face the consequences for the actions being done to children.
ReplyDeleteI agree I don't think Disney is going anywhere especially because they own both the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. Marvel and Star Wars have too huge of an audience and reach for a boycott to affect them. However I do think they might "tone down" they're representation in their children films to prevent anymore bad press.
ReplyDeleteI also do not believe Disney is going anywhere. This will impact their views, but their company is so big and popular they will be okay. It is so weird to me that I have not really seen much of this just on my regular social media like I would if it had to do with something smaller. I have seen that DeSantis is making Disney World pay a lot in taxes next year which is a good thing!
