Trump's Asylum Policy Under Review
The Biden Administration is the works of removing President Trump's asylum policy. The Supreme Court ruled yesterday to take under consideration the removal of this immigration program. The courts should arrive at a decision by late June or early July,
Under this program, asylum seekers from third-world countries and traveled through Mexico. They must await approval at the Mexico border before entering the United States.
This program was put in place in the early months of 2019 and since then there have been over 10,000 people waiting at the U.S. border. The conditions that asylum seekers are staying in are no where near sanitary. According to an article from the New York Times, there have been numerous reports of sexual assault, kidnapping, and torture from these tent encampments.
Early on in his presidency, Biden immediately looked to end this program, but many southern bordering states sued on the basis of providing government services to immigrants.
Biden must restart this program in order to end it, according to Supreme Court judges. We will see come mid-summer if the notation passed.
